lt4 hot cam, or CC306
I'm going to be caming up pretty soon and I'm trying to figure out what cam to pick. I was dead set on the lt4 hot cam kit, but I heard a cc306 car and bout ****, was so amazing, the best sounding lt1 I've ever heard... I can't choose which one to go with now. I drive my car daily, so gas mileage is a factor, as is drive ability ( six speed car ) I also have stock heads, and don't plan on changing the heads any time soon... I'm trying to decide, but need a bit of help, I'd rather have power down low, as I don't want to be spinning it past 6k rpm's..

well your not going to see the true benefits of the cc306 unless you stay in it well past 6k so i would say that cam is out of the question, plus your low end will suffer.
have you looked at the cc305 or the cc503 those are also good choices if you want something that are a little bigger than the hotcam
but comparing the hotcam and the cc306 is like comparing apples and oranges

305 sounds too stockish for what I'm looking for, thats one think I always liked about the hot cam was it sounded so big for how small/mild it really is, and the fact that it comes with the rockers/springs/odds/ends all in one cheap kit.. I heard the 306 was also pretty street able, but the lope that cam has is intense, defiantly the sound I'm trying to get, while still maintaining and gaining use able power, as I don't feel that spinning this old, opti spark endowed beast past 6 grand is a good idea...

yea, I have no problem with the way the hot cam sounds, its just the 306 sounds even better, but I haven't read anything as to where it makes its power, or what kind of driveablilty it offers

not interested in a custom cam, I'm not building a full out race car or anything like that... I want to try and get into the 12's, thats means I need around 9/10's to a full second off my times I'd be happy with LOW 13's as well, but mainly, just want a cam that will give me good manners and sound wicked..

Im pretty sure those cams are on a 112 lsa, usually the cc305 comes with the 114 which is what ill be putting in soon. Ill post some vids once its in.

If you want to stay under 6k rpms and have/will have stock heads for a while the cc306 should not even be considered. It is a top end cam, you will not make near the full possible power by shifting at 6k. My cc306 makes power all the way until 6800 just to give you an idea. From what it sounds like you should look at the cc305 or cc503 unless you choose to go custom...which will always make more power and perfectly fit your needs.

Maybe if you already have it apart go for a LE2 package from www.eportworks.com . For all you get its not a bad deal and once you do a cam you will most likely want more. But if you don’t have the coin to drop for that right now I say the hot cam would be a better daily driver cam. By the way Spuds why is it “under the knife” right now?

I ran the cc306 for about a year with LE2 heads and personally IMO it was not much of a DD, it had a decent amount of cam surge below 2000rpm and like stated above comes to life at around 3300rpm or so and you have to spin it high - 6500rpm to see all the power. I did run the cc503 on stock heads before changing to the cc306. To me it was a great cam, I used it as a DD and got good mpg and the power was there from 1500 all the way up to around 6000rpm (did not have any cam surge either). It had a really mean sound too on a 112LSA. It can also be emissions friendly which is also a plus. Car made 335rwhp and 340rwtq with the cc503 with MAC mids, stock heads and a PCM4Less tune.

In my opinion go custom. It will cost the same. Call comp and tell them what you want to do and they will build it for you.
You say you want a whole lot of lope. IMO that is costing you HP. I hear a loping car than I know that they have no Idea what they are doining to make HP. On a dyno you will see that a non dialed cam will cost you someware around 20HP using the same cam.
I say go custom to get maximum HP/Torque and still be streetable. JMO
