Default T-56 Clutch problem......

Just installed a factory clutch in my freinds 96 Z28 LT1 and When we put it all back together I started the car and when I pressed the clutch in I heard a grinding sound. Did I do the install right. When I took the slave cylinder off i noticed the clutch fork was loose and the bolt was as tight as it needed to be and when you pressed the clutch pedal, the fork would touch the pressure plate and thats what was making the grinding sound. i have done a few clutchswaps on the t-56 f-bodys and never had a problem. I feel really stupid right now and need a little bit of help. ipulled everything off and it lookes like I did everything right. put it all back together and it is still doing the same thing.
