Default got a idea for a CAI... corvette style

So with all the ls1 lid conversions goin around i was thinking a different route. Houe bout a covette intake? It basically would get routed in front of the raditor and its flat and wide so it would have a lot better chance of clearing under the hood. Im trying to find one i could use before i buy one but if it did work i think it would be better the a ls1 lid cause the filter would be in the front bumper cover getting cold air from behine the fog lights. Anyone else think of this?

Might be a challenge on a car with A/C and bolt on hood, but no A/C would make it easier and no hood latch even better. I always liked how the LS series had the air intakes inline with the intake, the LT1 setup just seems so indirect.

Give it a shot and let us know. I believe it would be worth a small investment.

I had thought about it but can't remember why I didn't.

i thought about that. i was gonna cut some of the bumper support out and have it up over the radiator goind down behind the latch.

but i settled on a lid and a cool hood

If you can do away with the radiator support (I ran mine like that for a long time), then it's pretty easy if your tube isn't too long.

I thought about it too, but the main issue for a stock hood is the latch. You can always just pin it (hood pins) which remedy that. I'd get locking ones though, only a few bucks more. Also, +1 for !AC to free up room. It's possible. My friend has a vette so I know what you mean and how it looks, so I think with some work it'd go. Def will be some core support cutting, but I'd say minor.

I say go for it. Be different, and maybe the first Hell, might even work better than a CAI, which is better than Ram Air as it sits. Just remember to cut the louvers out of the vette's air cleaner housing. I'd leave the scoop that's on it though, to keep out rain water.

Some inspiration.

Madman "Big Gulp"

I think this guy made his own:

As far as I know, you have to send your car to Madman & Co. because they only do the Big Gulp conversion in-house. But I like the second idea better, because the hood latch brackets get to stay. You could probably do it similar if you used a BBK Vette intake which is made of aluminum, and weld two pipes onto the end to "Y" it off, and have the filters down right behind the fog lights. Or hell, ditch the fogs altogether for better flow and put on some kind've grill to cover the holes.

lol i actually had a friend do a vette intakes think on a -body...basically it was short straight section from tb to maf..then a 90 degree bend from hardware store that he cut a hole in the radiator shroud and it went in front of the radiator..then he put a filter on the end of it...
the 90 degree part was a mandrel bent rubber tube but it was only maybe 2.5 inch diameter and it hit the hood and was smooshed some when it closed, i think it was a restriction...i think your old intake was a good setup...if it fit with abs then id say better than any lt1 cold air

Lol that big gulp is sick. Squirrels beware!

I may be wrong, but I think the third gens had an aftermarket vette style intake.

I was curious the other day, at the junk yard, about 3rd Gen Camaro's front style "ram air" into the 4th Gen.

That second post with the dryer ducting was done by sux2bu. I think that would be the best option and doesnt' require moving anything around.

It's work **** on a Firebird Base/Formula as well, since we have two spots where, I assume Fog lights go. mine just has 2 black plates blocking off the area.
