Default Some new times for my 396 LT-4

After a lot of waiting and multiple setbacks with the stock computer I made my first passes @ state capital raceway. I finally let Allan@FMS talk me into a BS3 and a larger\better camshaft. First of all the driveability is night & day w/the BS3. The car idles like a dream and runs all the way through with not as much as a hiccup. The car is easy to drive even though I'm still learning how & when to shift Here are my first passes with the new combo.

First Pass launch was with a 4000 2-step,hitting the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift
60' 1.427
330' 4.191
1\8 6.511
MPH 105.99
1000' 8.509
1\4 10.207
MPH 132.74

Second pass launch at 4500. Had my nerves calmed down and shifted 1-2 good at 7400 but shifted 2-3 early at 7000

60' 1.362
330 4.138
1\8 6.416
MPH 107.28
1000' 8.401
1\4 10.102
MPH 135.68

I know Brian and I have had our differences about something that I supposedly said, but I would like to take the time to thank him because the car drove down the track like a dream. He is the best @ what he does in my humble opinion. Thanks to everyone involved.

My setup is afr220's by craig @gtp, ported lt4 intake, stepped headers by kooks (1 3/4 to 1 7/8). The cam is a special grind by fms, the weight is 3180 with me in it. It run through a th400 rmvb, 9inch w/4.10 & a restalled yank converter. The converter is a 4500 but flashes to about 5200. My goals are 9's on motor 8's on spray. After I reach my motor goals I'm going to get a converter and gear for the spray.

what management?
You said setbacks with the stock computer, well it only goes to like 7200 and you said you shifted at 7400.

I could only get my stock computer to go to 6900, so I switched to BigStuff 3

Not to compare but I know ben really well and he had a single plane w/ a larger stall and not to tell his secrets but he made more than 460.

Can I ask a honest question? Why do people run the TH400s. From my understanding their power hogs. Strong, but thats why they are power hugs, from my understanding. Why not run a 700R4 or even a 200R4. I know a guy who build a 200R4 for a guy running a big turbo, mid 9s, GN.

700r4's, I dont think can handle all that much power and 200r4's are PRICEY to build up..Yeah, they'll take a TON of power, but you'll pay a crap load for it..Maybe the th400's have better 1st gear selection?

They are a great transmission. I have two friends that run them in top sportsman cars and go well into the 6.90s at 205ish mph. They are only a power hog on the chassis dyno... which wheel horsepower doesn't really mean shyt anyway.

First of all the th400 is a brute force trans and I am not a transmission man and do not have the time to rebuild every couple of passes. The 700r4 I had was rebuilt 5 times by numerous people and would not stay together.
Taner that is a great complement coming from you and if I could shift like you I would still have my original six speed. You have a beast and it is a goal for me to reach.
