Default Need your advice plz. TOW or DRIVE this 600 HP SS..

I'm buying a 600 HP 96 Camaro SS Supercharged 383 with a Turbo 400 Tranny , 3800 stall. This is basically a drag car and not built for highway drives. I'm from PA and the car is in Chicago, around 1000 miles away.

Would you DRIVE the car home or TOW it. The guy I'm buying it from is recommending towing it, what would you do and why?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

ide say tow it. there is really no reason to try to drive it untill you know how it drives. it will probly leave you sitting and youll have to get a tow anyway. also, ide say if the owner recomends towing it, listen to him because he would know what its capably of.

Well, I drove the car, I don't think it has any problems, my question is why shouldn't it be driven that long and what exactly will hurt to drive it on the highway, I'm just curious.

Ehh... its risky.. you could get stuck somewhere. You didn't build it you dont know what was rigged...

If its a "drag car"... you really have no choice but to tow it... unless your exagerating

Well, it's a drag, built TH400 with 3800 stall and 373 gears, trans brake and all that ****, hmmm, not exagerating bro, that's what the car is really, it's meant from light to light I guess, at least for me since I'll never go to any drag racing and one of the first things I'll be doing is taking that TH400 out for a T56.

It'd probably just be cheaper (on gas that is) to tow it. You also don't run the risk of getting stranded. If the car is truly a drag car, it probably wasn't meant for long highway trips...

Whats the motor setup? What kind of tires are on it, and what size are they? And what gears does it have in it?

One question, why buy a built drag car already equipped with a 400 and put 6 speed in it.
JMO. Any ways I say you should tow it. Thats quite a ways to drive.

First of all why buy a drag car to never go drag racing, and second why put a 6speed in a supercharged 383 that has a TH400 Won't be such a good idea once you break a couple of them...unless you have the cash to just throw around for a stronger rebuild and/or replacement

Tow it. youd likely be deaf after driving a car like that at interstate speed. All that gear with no OD would be ****** loud cause im sure it has a pretty open exhaust. and possibly being stranded with an overheated or broken car on top of that would be one long day

towing would be safer but i can tell you from experiance the drive home is so much fun. I bought a 93 z28 in april and drove it 22hrs from cincinatti to winnipeg, mb. It was an awsome road trip. The only thing is the car didn't have a radio and it is cammed with 415rwhp and dumped true duals with bullets, so half way home i bought ear plugs at walmart lol.

Thank you guys for all your opinions and here I'll try to answer some of the questions:
Why do I wanna go with a T56? Because I'm not a fan of Automatics at all, I just don't really enjoy driving an automatic car that much.

Why buy a drag car if I don't want to go to the drag? : 2 reasons:
1- Because I'm just really not into drag racing, I'll just enjoy racing Cobras around.
2- I always wanted a supercharged 383 Camaro SS, I wanted to build one but I found it all in one place so I jumped on it, the owner is a retired 63 year old man.

Well, the supercharger/intercooler setup from Vortech is around $4500. To build a 383 will cost around $2500-$3000 if you're lucky, so right there is 8 grand that I wanted to invest in the 96 SS that I wanted to buy. Now the 96 SS itself is not cheap since they only made 2410, so the car would cost me around $7000 to buy (Stock).
This car has it all (Except the 6 speed), and it's for 9 grand total, 52k miles and 2000 miles on the 383 and TH400. Wouldn't you jump on it? Why is it "that" cheap ?!! It's a question that I might ask the man ONLY after we transfer the title .

Now, any one wants this stupid TH400/ 3800 stall converter, B&M shifter, trans brake??
