Default New Cam...Old Motor... Shift Point???

Recently installed the cc503 and will be getting a dyno tune soon. Dont know what to set the shift point at. 142,XXX on the motor, stock rebuilt tranny, and rear gears are on in good shape (looked good when i changed the fluid). Motor runs very smooth and me and the previous owner (so i was told) go with mobil one synthetic every 2,500 miles. When i did the cam swap every thing looked like it was well maintained (minimal wear and sludge was found on the parts). I will soon be switching to a high volume oil pump to try and keep it alive a little longer. I've been told ill be fine to 6,200 rpm but im not going to risk it if theres any question that it wont hold up.

Eventually ill go 355 or 383 forged, but for now shes just cam and bolt ons. Am i risking alot by spinning up to 6200 or should i just leave her at the stock shift points. All opinions welcome. thanks

Oh and shes a daily and sees minimal WOT time and only goes to the track a few times a year.

You should be alright at 6,200. It is really a hit and miss deal. Some guys have problems at stock rev limiter and some rev insanely high on the stock bottom with no problems.

Yeah i figured i would get similar responses to that. Guess i just gotta decide if i wanna risk it, and then do everything i can to keep her runnin smooth.

Stock shiftpoints are at 5700rpm I believe? anyways I took the car to the track with the 503 shifting at 5700 and ran a 13.2 at 105.5mph. I boosted them up to 6000 which is still too low and now I run consistent 12.8's at 110mph. So if you want to play it safe and keep it at 6000 it will still haul ***. I plan to shift around 6300/6400 once I get it the stall in and tune have it retuned for maximum potential out of the cam.

Thats good to know. Cant believe that 300 rpm knocked off half a second. Guess im probably goin to set it at 6200. Cant wait to run this thing at the track.

Going from an 80 degree to a 35 night didnt hurt either but it pulls alot harder even with the shift points being 300 more and has more in it.
