which cam for my 355 for 400 rwhp
i have a 94 camaro now with stock heads and a cc503,3.23, 2800 stall and run low 12's now at 3450 lbs . i am going with a new setup. i already have some heads wating to go on the car they are cnc ported lt1 heads 185cc 2.00/1.56 valves flow 270/190 @ .600 lift. i also have an edge 3400 stall and 3.73 gears waiting to go in. i want a cam that will get me well into the 11's and 10's on the spray. i was thinking maybe 224/236 nitrous cam or 230/236. only want to spin the motor to about 6500, any suggestions.

You are not going to be running a big enough shot to warrant a "nitrous cam", the smaller of the two is a better choice given the rpm limit you are placing on it. Really though DO NOT spread the LSA for nitrous. The off the shelf cams are already spread so far from optimal to begin with all you will do is make the problem worse.

Considering you dont want to spin past 6500 its going to be a waste of time and money swapping in one of the cams you listed. The 230/236 likes 6600-6800 shifts so the cc503 would actually perform better. Since you dont want to shift past 6500 I'd just keep the 503 or get a custom grind.

^not necessarily, my 503 likes 6500 the best and the Madz28 tuner guy has a thread on another board where he was talking about how the 230/236, 233/239, 306, and 847 really need to hit 6700-6800 or they will run bad times so shifting the 230/236 at 6500 would most likely be worse than shifting a 503 there because it wouldnt be maximizing the potential out of it where the 503 is maxed out which should be slighty better. Just my .02

Peak HP isnt everything. A car that creates power throughout the powerband will be faster than a cam that nets peak HP. Thats a big factor people dont understand. Dyno numbers mean nothing other than that....a number. What really matters (to me anyways) is the times the car puts down at the track. Stick with the 503 or a Custom grind as stated.

400 to the wheels will be much more difficult going through a stalled auto and not spinning past ~6500 then with just a 6 speed, so you will need a more agressive cam and quality heads.
Best bet would be custom...

which cam would be a good off the shelf cam to make 400rwhp with my set up and work well with nitrous. without spinning past 6800, cc306, gm847, or 236/ 242 car is still driven daily to work and to the track on weekends.

A few people hit 400rwhp with sometimes well thought out setups(others a dyno queens) and now every kid thinks he can cobble crap together and make it happen.
If the same old same, old off the shelf cams would get you there than it would not be much of a goal to shoot for. There are companies who sell custom cams for the same price as off the shelf but without the off the shelf compromises.
The cam companies understand the vast majority of their customers are going to do just like you were trying too and pick way too much duration, they compromise other specs so that your too large duration drives OK and most are too ignorant to ever notice the power they are missing, all they know is they have big duration and it drives OK so they are happy.
If you want off the shelf and a 65-6800 limit stick with what you have, it is a decent cam for a compromised off the shelf grind.
