Default Just Traded My truck For A Fast 95 T/A

so i traded my 1989 chevy street truck to this guy that had a red trans am

i took it to the car wash cleaned everything power washed the motor whel it was running everything was fine then i went to wax it dry it etc and about 2 hours later i go to start the car to leave the car wash and it runs like ****...and when you rev the motor it sounds like a V6 and it holds its shifts until like 3200 RPMs i tried driving it on the freeway took forever to get to 70 when i got home i looked under the car and the cat was a little red

so i have no clue what to do now i figure it has to do with something that gives the motor spark becuase it sounds and feels like im driving a POS V6 when right before i washed it the car was burning the tires at 40MPH rolls

ughhh

someone help!

Most likely you got a lil water on the opti, hit it was a hair dryer, they may help.

But the symptoms that you list also indicate a CLOGGED CAT, so if you can remove it and put a test pipe in there to see if it improves.

Also to note, it sounds like there wasnt a issue until you had power washed the car so that would lend to be a opti issue. In the future for the engine bay, a rag w/ simple green works fine.

unbolt the exhaust and drive it and see what happens...if it drives better and has the power back to it, then its a clogged cat... i use to power wash my LT1 all the time, without any problems... the only time i would have problems is if i had a bad/burnt plug wire and then it would arc when wet...

Probably both.

Water in the opti will not make the cat turn red.

well the cat could get hot if all the gas wasnt being burned off right? becuase i had a high flow brand new cat on my camaro and the opti went out and i could only drive at 2,000 rpms and it kept cutting out and the cat was bright red and once the opti was changed out everything was fine....

it revs it drives but it just runs liek its a v6 sounds like a v6 and doesnt shift until like 3200rpms that might also be becuase of the shift kit in it too but im just saying

so you guys think there is water in my opti?

how do i fix that ?

Damn son,
you washed the opti, you need to pull the opti harness out and the opti vent hoses and blow compressed air through it all....
if you continue to run it with this condition you will end up ruining your opti if it already is not damaged!
I pressure wash my engine but i stay clear of MR. OPTI he does not play well with direct water...

ive got my money on clogged cat. possibly opti, but could be wrong. when the car is running does it have a foul odor from the exhaust? (sulfur or rotten egg smell)

and to the others, i power wash my engine bay about once a month and never have a problem with the opti, just DONT directly spray it. what is it with everyone thinking if a drop of water touches the opti its gonna **** out...

No it has to do with the unburnt fuel getting into the cat because the opti got wet and now the spark is not being distributed like it is supposed to..do a search..you cant get the optis wet on these cars..and what year model is it..as it may not be vented either

i wouldnt blow compressed air in the opti. take it apart, paying special attention to where everything goes and wipe it out. put back together....

or you can leave it running......the vacuum will suck the air through the opti since your 95 is vented.
