well stock for a v6 was a 225/50/16, and they look small and v8's were 245/50/16 sometimes i'll run a 255/50/16 and it looks pretty good . I'm sure it could hold up to a 305/ 50, or 60 but the side walls will be bowed in quite a bit and you may need to roll the fenders. So i would stick with no more then a 255/50/16

i dont really think there is much option for 16's, Mickey Thompson makes a ET street that will work.

You measured to the extreme outer lip of the rim - the measurement
should be to the lower seat of the rim's lip, because the tire's bead sits
down inside the lip. So, that 1/2 inch lip on each opposing edge gave you
the 17" measurement.

if you are talking about putting a 17"tire on a 16" rim you cant I dont know of a single shop that will be stupid enough to do that, and they will not hold air. I work for goodyear and I kno a good amount about tires. and you have 16's on your car!!

yea you can put a wider tire width on a smaller rim. Alot of people run 275's on thier 15x8's and they are fine. what kind of tire are you looking for, something like a drag radial, or something else. There is not much options out there in 16's so if you want a radial tire get the BFG's posted above. If not then M/T makes ET streets in 26-10.5-16 they are a dot slick.

The school system didn't do much for you, huh

The 255/50/16 as mentioned above will be the best for your stockers
