Default need some LT1 questions answered please.

my buddy bought a 95 LT1 motor from me and he is putting it into his c-10 pickup (offroading). and he ahd a couple questions i told him id get answered for him. he doesnt want to go injected yet, he just wants to get it runing and he has all the parts to do so carburated.

1. would he be able to bolt a sbc intake on it and carburate it? he hs a fastburn 385 manifold and a demon carb in his garage.

2. where can you buy those front covers for when you take the opti off and still need the splines on the cam to stick out for the waterpump?

thanks in advance.

I do not believe any SBC manifold will fit on lt1 heads, there are companys that make them for the lt1.

if you no longer need an opti then why not just buy a electric WP, I believe a SBC timing cover will work but someone correct me if im wrong on this stuff.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2&autoview=sku this is the intake he'll need. although an lt1 intake doesnt flow water he could most likely use another as long as the bolt holes line up. no cover is needed, just leave the opti in place and dont hook any wires to it. he'd be happier in the long run leaving it fuel injected. it can be turned on its side and still run without problems, get alot better mpg, and have better throttle response and torque. painless and howell electronics both make wiring harness that make it easy to leave it efi. the main thing is bypassing the v.a.t.s. and running a good fuel pump/ return line.

BTW, a standard sbc timing cover will not work on an lt1.

there is a cover made for replacing the opti with it.......so the spline still sticks ou ijust need to find out where to buy it. and he is gonna go injected he is gonna get it running carburated now while he gathers the rest of the parts for FI and reworks the harness.

GM makes an optispark block off plate (they call it a front cover plug p/n 12367600) as well as a carb manifold for the LT1

You should check, but sometimes the carb manifolds come with the block off plate. Verify with Summit if that is the case.
