Default opti relocate kit

a friend of mine is building a LT1 stroker motor to put in his boat I told him to get the opti relocate kit to put the distributor on top of the motor. Does anyone have a link to the kit for this so I can see how much it cost and what it takes to do this. thanks

to my knowledge there is no opti relocation kit. Unless you're talking about converting to a coil pack setup. Besides if there was, it would be relocated to the back of the motor as a conventional dist. No way for the opti to spin on top of the motor.

If you're going to run the factory PCM, the Opti provides both high and low resolution pulses back to the PCM (even with the coil-pack mod). Only an Opti can provide those pulses. So, if you were to use a "conventional distributor" located at the rear of the LT intake (it can be machined out for a distributor), the PCM will not work.

If you find an Opti relocations kit (I've never seen one), post the info here on the forum.

Indmar marine did an LT marine conversion (1994 to 1996), but I'm not sure about the Opti on the Indmar.

Here's a start for your research. Pretty weird to see a regular distributor on an LT1:

would be cool to have the dist. drive shaft coming out of the back of the intake and the spline drive/dowel pin on the end of it.

I think for him to mount it on top will help prevent any issue with water splashing

Even with the coil-packs, the PCM will still require the high and low resolution pulses. Only an Opti can provide those pulses to the PCM, a conventional distributor does not provide the pulses.

Yes, but with the coil pack setup you take the high voltage out of the Opti and this will greatly increase the life of the opti especially in a maritime situation where it will be more exposed to water/humidity.

This is exactly why I have the Delteq on my car. My opti got wet and I have driven it for 5K miles with the packs on it. Now that I have a DD, I might go back to all GM opti though because it doesn't even see rain.

I thought I remember seeing someone take the opti wheel and sticking it on a conventional dist. on the back of the engine. Opti is still driven by the camshaft and has the wheel/optical assembly, just mounted on the dist. instead of the timing cover.

Cam drives the opti - not the other way around. This is why we have the dowl on the end of the LT-1 cams.
