Default sorry for the repost guys common problem with opti

I have searched through past post with little succes on wich opti is a good replacement. I have a ported set of heads along with most bolt ons and am doing a cam soon as well. I am looking for an opti replacement or complete replacement system. my car has acted rather wierd for the last week or so. what better time to uprgade the cam then when i replace an opti? also was wondering what a good replacement water pump is? I would rather not go with an electrical. thank you for the help guys

My $.02 is the MSD unit is made better than the AC Delco or the clones (billet base, bearing vs. bushing, "O" ring cap seal, stronger rotor)..weather that proves to be worth the extra $250-$300 remains to be seen. I have the MSD on my 383 but only 5k miles on that motor.

Whatever one you do go with, remove the rotor and put Lock Tite on the threads of the 2 screws.

I have the Accel opti and (knock on wood) haven't had anything but good luck with it. Cheap and a good part.

Yea, there's been quite a few bad cases with the Accel. Some DOAs even.

I list Delco simply because people run 150-200K on their stock one w/o a problem, and I've read cases of even MSD's going out in 20K :\

Optical. It's the style sensor the distributor uses, it also doubles as the cam position sensor. And since it's a touchy electronics, does not take well to water/moisture. The moisture won't kill it, but it's the reason they act up in rain. Yours is 95 though so it's vented to help prevent that, and does a good job.

So, we just call it the Opti for short.
