Default having problem with my 2006 GTO tranny, please help

YOu know how when you are driving it locks you out of shifting to reverse? It wont allow you to go over far enough, and then up?

well periodically when i am driving and go to shift to 5th, it will allow me to go all the way over and up into reverse. I was told it could be a bad solinoid, and to fix it i would likely have to drop the tranny. What is the deal??

The lockout solenoid can be replaced without removing the trans from the car, but you will have to lower the tail end (cross-member) and remove the shifter to allow it to drop down a few inches.

Have you tried putting the trans into Reverse with the car off? Is there alot of resistance, or does it go over/in easily? It may just be that the connector was
left off, or the wires were burned/crushed or a fuse has blown on the lockout
circuit. Check the easy stuff first. The only time the lock-out should open easily
is when the car is not moving, engine running, clutch depressed. (possibly may
need the brake pedal depressed also). All the other times, it should have resistance
going into Rev.

I don't know what your home/garage situation is, but if you can get under the car safely and drop down the exhaust,Xmem, etc. the actual replacement of the solenoid is just the connector and one 13mm bolt..

Warranty on the GTO's is 3/36, with some exceptions. Consult the owners manual it goes into good detail with the warranty. Just out of curiousity did you check to see if the cable had come unplugged and is their power? Like Mike said definitely can be done at home, not sure where to get the part though. Last time I looked at the parts break down, GM didn't list the solenoid...why I don't know.
