Default Question about reassembling the tailshaft housing to the rest of the transmission

I bought a replacement tailshaft casing from Tick and am having issues getting onto the rest of the trans. The case pulls up to where the dowel pins line up, but there is still a gap. The gap is small enough that I can start pulling the case onto the trans, but that doesn't seem like its being done right. Is the case supposed to easily slide back onto the trans? Is there any tricks to getting it back on? Pull it on using the bolts?

definitely DON'T pull it on with bolts..

It's either the 5/6/R shift rail needs to be aligned with the tail housing (A flat blade screw-driver inserted in the case gap will move it to help it into the support) and/or sometimes the output needs to be rotated to align the reverse drive/driven/idler gears into mesh..

Any other methods? This damn thing is not going on. I have the shifter bolted down and tried to go through the gears and its not doing anything. What do you mean align the 5th/6th shift rail? Is it that long rail at the top? If so I have moved it back and forth.

If the trans is vertical, and you're looking at the bottom of the trans I believe the shiftrail is on the left. I had issues with that aligning with the hole in the tailshaft housing. Like said, a flat blade screw driver stuck in the gap to push the shift rail around and a little bit of wiggling got mine to drop down in place.

if you have the trans sanding up on a table (input shaft down) and you are looking at the top of the trans (the shifter hole) the 5/6 shift rail will be on the left. its the one that has your 5/6 syncro on it. take the flat thin piece of metal, flat screw driver, and improvisable device and pull it towards the center (or towards the right side) and this will line the shift rail up with bushing it rides and and the tailhousing will slide right down onto the dowel pins and you can bolt everything up.

Not sure why you bolted a shifter on? The 5/6/R shift rail is in the lower left of this pic (w/green assembly lube). It has to align into the guild of the tail housing. BTW, why did you need a new tail housing? I've seen tailhousings break and warp the main case to the point where the case dowels won't align either.

The slide fork shaft (SHOWN ABOVE IN PIC) is not lining up IN THE TAIL HOUSING and IS causing the gap. You have to "wiggle" it a bit and the tail housing will slide on. DO NOT USE THE BOLTS AND DRAW IT TOGETHER OR **** WILL GO BOOM.
