me and my buddy are gonna be doin a fun swap into a miata. we know we're gonna be going with an f-body t-56. but i'm looking for some pro's and con's as well as the major differences between the lt1 t-56 and the lsx t-56. i'm gonna continue to search for any answers but any information will definately be helpful. thanks in advance!

I'm not sure there's a 2.97:1 input shaft in the LS1 length; so if they've got a 2.97:1 first gear LT1 T56, they may be SOL. For a little info on the T56's as of about 2 years ago, take a look here: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=98387

theres alot more differences than that. the ls1 t56 was made in mexico and has alot of problems. it has aluminum shift forks while the lt1 t56 has iron shift forks and was made in germany. lt1 t56s are known to handle alot of power. find call911 hes putting down over 600rwhp through a stock lt1 t56

A LS1 T56 has a longer input shaft, AND the front adapter plate must be changed (nobody even mentioned this). It's been covered many times, and there's a write up on here how to do it.

Here is a side by side comparison so this could be put to rest. LT1 on the left and LS1 on the right. Just be aware, you cannot just replace the input shaft and midplate and call it a day. To do this swap CORRECTLY, you must check the end play on both the input/main shaft and the cluster shaft and shim it. Failing to do so could result in noise/premature failure.

First of all you are WRONG! Second, 85MikeTPI knows his S*%T about T56's! Have you really opened up a T56? If so you would know that there are 4 shift forks in there. What you saw were the 5-6 and the reverse forks. Go little deeper next time and you can repost what you saw here.
