Question stock t56 shifter now has Play..sticking to when I slide it to the left

I have a T56 in a 01 SS.

Problem:
My shifter has play when engine is on/off. I can wiggle it around in a circle almost about an inch easily.

When I move the stick to the left as if I'm about to shift into 1st/2nd It can stay there unless I move it back to the middle of neutral.

Recent work done:
Replaced bushing and seal on tailhousing..

Can it be that I need a Shim on my slave? could my synchro's be worn from not shimming my slave? Or can that cause play?

Default Play in the Shifter

Good chance the plastic bushing in the shifter cup has broken. That would put play in the shifter in a circular motion.

Yep; check the bushing.

Returning to center is a function of the bias springs. They're shimmable in a factory Hurst so it will more aggresively return to centre; not sure on others.

Bushing or check to see if the shifter bolts are tight.. I replaced my trans a WHILE ago, and I found three out of four of the shifter bolts were wicked loose.

And the detents are from the ball bearing and spring in the shift "map" in the trans (or am I thinking off the T-5?).. I think once the spring is worn, or the "map" is worn, it will be loose between gears. If it hangs between gears, it can be a flat spot on that "map" between gears. MAP

Hopefully you put some loctite on the screws to keep 'em from backing out again.
