How much abuse can the T-56 take?
I know the T-56 is reveled as an incredible transmission by most car guys due to it's application in many sports cars, Vipers, Covettes, Aston Martins, etc. But as a novice to manual transmissions, I keep wondering, how much abuse can this thing take. Because I know all those times when I release the clutch too late or hold it too long or use to much gas during the shift, I know I must be doing some damage to it. So, I was wondering what precautions should I take. What could I do to better take care of it and learn to use it better? I know I have to keep checking the fluid, and the clutch must be changed every once in a while. I have a Stage 2 clutch, any idea how many miles that could be good for with a novice (quick clutch wearer) driver? Well, thanks.

I don,t know if this helps, but my T56 in my 95 Camaro took a lot of abuse! I had a 392 stroker with a 300 hit nitrous that I would hit out the hole with 1.4 60ft's, went though 6 clutches and 50,000 miles on that transmission. The only thing I did was run BG synthetic fluid in it and changed it every 10k and never had a problem. I liked the Spec Clutches the best, always lasted the longest and good pedal feel...

I have destroyed one because I was not shifting it right, I killed the syncros and a shift fork, but I had no money so I drove it for another 10,000 miles b4 the bearings started to go and then it was a paper weight....now I'm a bit more carefull about how fast I try to shift....they can take a lot of **** but if your not shifting it right you will break somthing. I have a SPEC 3 and I like it but my next clutch will be a tex twin(I got a deal on it)so that should be interisting for daily driving.

My 6.0 with a Trex finally killed 2nd gear a month and a half ago, foud out that the previous owner had it rebuilt, but they replaced the 2nd gear and not the slider, caused the 2nd gear failure, but it took a TON of 7100 RPM ballz out shifts for about 6 months before it broke, now it should be solid with the rebuild i had done today.

i took out the stock 3-4 shift fork cuz they are weaker than paper, but other than that i havent had any problems with 70ish thousand miles of hard *** driving.
Me, along with many others here take our high hp motors and let em fly off of the limiter at the track with slicks and yada yada and they seem to take alot of it just fine
