Default Clutch or trans?

how do you know if the trans is bad or the clutch?

provide some information concerning/describing what is actually not functioning properly and then maybe someone will have a useful response. at this point there is no way anyone can help you.

If the trans is bad you cant drive the car, if the clutch is bad you cant drive the car.

I love posts like these

Some problems can be related to both, such as grinding gears, hard shifting, etc. A description of the problem(s) and when they happen will go a long way

well not entirely true, I drove this clutch for 2 miles after the friction material sheared off and lodged itself into the pressure plate, rendering it impossible to disengage:


had to use the car's starter to get moving at every stop light and rev match every shift

You missed my point, I was being as non descriptive as the first post.

this is the problem when i shift into first at a stop light if i put the gear in like normal it will grind if i go in slow it wont grind only does it in first gear also downshifting into first has the same effect

Does the car creep forwards at all when it goes into gear? Also, If it only happens in 1st (also, check reverse) it could be a clutch disengagement issue.

reverse works all gears work perfect exept for 1st but the Clutch does have 170000 miles on it. also this happened to after the throttle got stuck on the wot position and i had to launch the car at wot out off the freeway 2-3 launches to get completely out the way of getting crashed
