Default How to identify F-Body vs. GTO Bellhousing?

The F Body and GTO bellhousing are often marketed as the same/interchangeable part. But my understanding is that they are in fact slightly different, necessitating the use of a specific starter. In other words, a GTO starter will not fit an F Body bellhousing (& vise versa).

If buying a used belhousing, how can one make the distinction between a factory F Body vs. GTO bellhousing?

Thanks.

By your own definition the starter holes are different sizes. I have no had the two side by side so I can't say for sure

Right, but short of walking around with an F Body starter and a GTO starter, I'm wanting to know if there is any way to distinguish one bellhousing from the other, by appearance alone.

F-car bell has a rounded pocket / GTO has a more oblong, elongated pocket.

From what I've gathered, the bolt holes are the same. It's the nose cones of the starters that don't interchange (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I have a GTO bellhousing and used an aftermarket F-body starter (PowerMaster) without a nose cone and it works just fine.
