Default rebuild kit questions!

So against my better judgement I just bought an M6 body. It was a 98(my favorite year) and hardtop(a must for me) and just happened to be an M6. I kinda enjoy driving it, so I'm gonna keep the trans in it for the time being. 4th gear engagement grinds badly unless it is double clutched, and when downshifting it won't go into 4th at all. Other than that, it seems to operate fantastically. The car has 95k on the body/trans. Will a standard rebuild kit include what is needed to remedy this concern? I am assuming it is a synchro issue, but I'm admittedly ignorant when it comes to the t56. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have no problem tearing it apart and rebuilding it myself, I just want to make sure I'm throwing the right parts at it!

Might want to give someone like D&D Performance a call on your issue and what parts they would recommend. I bought my T56 new from them in 05 for a A4-T56 swap. They are one of the largest Tremac dealers/shops. A steel 3-4 shift fork comes to mind assuming your tranny is still stock.

There certainly could be other issues going on

Ordering parts before it's torn down isn't going to help you get what's needed.

Here's your revised order:
  1. tearing it apart
  2. make sure I'm throwing the right parts at it
  3. rebuilding it myself

ok thanks! I don't plan on driving the car much so I guess I'll yank the trans out and tear it down at work

Once you have it apart it is a good time for some upgraded goodies too If that is the only problem gear you'll probably be able to reuse almost all of your hard parts and that's a good thing.
