Default Difference between the 01 clutch and the Z06 cluch?

I know alot of talk last year went back and forth stating the 2001's got a new clutch. I am very unsure if this was true or not.

My peddle is very soft compared to 99's that I have sat inside. Mine travels far...and it seems to engage very high.

Anyone got a similar feel on the 01-02 clutch??

Thinking about ordering the Z06 clutch....but I don't want to buy exactly what I have now. I like the feel of less travel...or I guess a harder feel in the peddle.

Okay thanks, guess my b/f is gonna try to bleed the line to see if there is pressure in the line....he said it's always had that funny feel to him also.

If that doesn't work, then I guess new clutch is enroute....unsure of what I will replace it with next time :/

The pressure plate has more clamping force, and the pad on the clutch disk is thicker on the '02s. Not sure of the exact specs, though.

the 01 clutch is the z06 clutch. the 02 is also the zo6 just a better pressure plate i think from the 01 version.

My 01 is the exact same way. Only the last inch of pedal travel really does anything. When its cold it'll start to bite at halfway released, but when its warm, to get the car moving (not creeping) I have to let it out 90% of the way. Its a pain to drive smoothly. I only have 11k miles on mine, and its gotten worse over time I think. Im wondering whether i should bother taking it in to have them replace it or just put a clutch in myself.

Hi there,
If I may shed some light here. 01, be it Corvette or F car, has the Z06 clutch assembly. They were all the same part number, and still had some reliability issues, when subjected to drag strip launches on a consistant basis.
In 02, ZO6 got a specific clutch, with higher clamping force, stronger damper springs, and better friction material. The 02 fcar, and LS1 based Corvette, had the 01 clutch, plain and simple.
One thing that people do not realize is that these clutches, based on design may take up to 5000 to fully seat in. The reason is that this design clutch starts to grab at the outside edge first, and gradually clamps over the entire surface area. This is critical to know, as while your clutch wears, it will develop better clamping force as it wears. Also, the thoughts on the adjustable pressure plate is true, as the fulcrum point moves within the pressure plate, it will compensate some for driven plate wear.
All Gen3 clutches should grab about 1-2 inches off the floor board. If you are grabbing higher than half way, and you have no hydrualic leaks, then your plate is probably worn substantially.
HOpe this helps, c4c5

I can at least tell you that the '01 isn't good enough for riding the clutch out at the track very often even with an internally stock engine. Mine has about 3000 miles and is begging for mercy!

It's Cartek time for me.

[ November 22, 2001: Message edited by: CHRISC ] I LOST MY FIRST (STOCK) CLUTCH ON MY 10TH RUN. REPLACED WITH THE 02 Z06 CLUTCH FROM GM. ADDED BFG DR. THE ZO6 SETUP HAD ABOUT 2000 MILES ON IT. ON MY 2ND LAUNCH IT GAVE UP ON THE 1-2 SHIFT! WITH A 2.01 60 FT. I'VE RESEARCHED MANY DIFFERENT PLACES FOR A REPLACEMENT UNIT AND DECIDED ONE THE SPEC STAGE 3 KEVLAR UNIT AFTER TALKING TO EARL AT SPEC. I'M STILL DRIVING WITH THE 02 ZO6 UNIT WITH JUST ABIT OF CHATTER ONCE AND A WHILE. NO HARD DIVING UNTIL I GET THE SPEC UNIT INSTALLED. I HOPE TO DO THIS ON CHRISTMAS WEEKEND! I WILL REPORT BACK WITH THE OUTCOME AND SOME DRIVING FEEDBACK. MINE:02 Z28 M6 SLP YPIPE SLP LOUD MOUTH LPW REAR GIRDLE SLP LID IAT PLUG IN BEST 13.33 106.98 2.00 60 FT 168FT ELEVATION.

Welp, we are gonna try to bleed the line today I know it's hydraulic, but it may have line pressure in it. It looks like an 02 Z06 clutch is not far off...I cannot stand it.

And the other night I damn near burnt it up...stunk like hell at the track!!

These things die quickly IF you race alot and ride the clutch out of the hole like I do (for traction and rearend reasons.) I leave the line at 5000 but never let the rpms drop back below 3500. This makes for smooth and consistant launches...it also makes for stinky hot slipping clutches!

In 3000 miles I'd say my clutch has about 600 full out launches on it. It is just about dead.

Dayummmm Colonel! I leave around 2K so I don't spin or bog (stock) and when I left at 3K, I spun and went up in smoke!

Practice, practice, I know

I had a 01 Z06 clutch it worked well for about a year then it died. I didnt even visit the track that often either. I now have a Cartek and it is bad ***. I can bark the tires pretty well going into 4th at 90mph!

i had an 01 in my 01. i blew it after 15000 miles but it was defective. i had about 50% left on the clutch. i replaced my clutch myself with the 02 zo6 about 2 months ago. i was happy with it all around. but the main reason i went with it was i got it new for under 300 with a new Throwout. i noticed b4 i changed it i had a problem slipping with the n2o but now i have had no problems. fully grabs with 460hp and 550tq to the wheels. pulled off a 11.76 @ 121 on stock everything even the rear where b4 i was stuck at 12.4 cuz of slipping. The key i found was breaking in the clutch and that pressure plate. the disc is the same part number as the old one so nothing changed there. but if i had to get another cuz no deal on the 02 zo6, well then i would have went with the cartek setup that is your best bang for your buck.

hope that helps bro. i can give you any details if you want it.
