Default T56 or ZF 6-Speed?

I'm thinking of swapping in an LQ4 into my '88 Trans Am. I've already got an LT1/T56 in there now, but I feel that the LQ4 is a better design, and I know more about those motors anyway.
Can I use the T56 from my LT1 on the LQ4, and just get the LS1 bellhousing? Or would I need something else?
if the T56 would be a big hassle, would a ZF 6-Speed work also? I know they came mated to some of the LQ4's, and there would be no problem bolting pu to the motor. Would the ZF 6-speed have any clearence issues with my trans tunnel?
How do the T56 and ZF 6-Speed compare in their ability to handle lots of torque?

If you swap the T56LT1 set-up comlpetely(assuming thats what you have) it should work. The only reason to swap to a LS1 T56 would be to get a concentric slave ( LT1 has a external slave= both are hydraulic)

The earlier Corvette S6-40 ZF's were rated at 450 ft-lbs while the later ones (1994-1996, IIRC) were rated at 410ft-lbs. The F-body T56's are rated at 450 ft-lbs. Both transmissions can (obviously) be built to handle a lot more. Bill Boudreau at ZR51 Performance ( www.zfdoc.com ) is a great source for the ZF transmissions (including parts, info, and modified trannys).
