Default Anyone Ever Had This Problem......

When i am out on the open road and in 5th gear and if i shift out of 5th then try to go back into it it won't let me...i have to shift into 4th then back into 5th anyone have any idea what this is? I have a 02 M6 with 37k Please help....

any grinding?

might be a bent shift fork, the 5/6 fork is really thin and bends fairly easily. its rare to hear about it, but i've done it...

no grinding...just like it locks up as if it doesn't want it to go into R or something

Its probably the forks , they have broken pads and/or severe wear on them .

It may be that your 5th/6th synchro has a hard time comming back to neutral( bent fork or broken/ damaged pads could do this). Does it have a problem if you go to 6th then 5th?

No problem going from 6th to 5th just when i am in 5th and try to ga back to 5th i know it is not something that is done alot just wondering if there was somthing wrong and if it would lead to other problems...Thanks guys

Be sure you are fully out of 5th( back to neautral) before going back in.If you do not get fully back, You will disengage the gear but not reseat the synchro. When you try ro re-enter the gear you will not have the synchro working properly and it will not match speed.
