Guys with 500whp+ w/ T56 come on in
Whats up everyone, have a few questions that my buddy asked for some info on. He has a 98 Z28 with 500whp, and currently has a blown T56. We were wondering what kind of manual trans set-up you guys would recommend for this much power. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

If he does alot of racing and not much street driving he can proshift the T56. There are a few upgrades than can be made in a rebuild like hardened shafts, steel shift fork and the carbon material blocker rings.

he pretty much daily drives it, with an exception on a few nice days were he drives his bike, so do you guys think something like that would be tolerable in a DD?

The T56 is a great racing transmission that can be built to withstand a great amount of power. I built mine up and it can now withstand over 500 rear wheel horsepower. There are multiple websites, sponsors and shops that can prep your friends transmission for him.

i'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say that the trans is either jammed in a gear, or that it is grinding gears.
neither of the above are a result of abuse from high horsepower, rather abuse from the driver.
rebuild it with the stock upgraded components and practice safe shifting

well we figured it wouldnt be to bad either once we got it apart. it would grind a bit into third, and would always pop out of 5th and reverse, so we figured only a couple syncros would have to be replaced, turns out all the syncros and gears were pretty much fried along with his clutch. he was having some problems with the trans ever since he bought the car when it was stock. then added a TR224, all bolt ons, 12-bolt and sticky tires, and the trans got worse. he then hit it with a 125 shot and a good tune. so the trans has had some abuse.
