Default Having trouble w/ Standstill burnout

I have a set of tires almost bald and I would like to completely and i do mean comepletey destroy them before i put new ones on. They are some junk 275 pirellis. I want to do some standing still burnouts and completely eat em up.
Usually if i want to do a little burnout ill rev a little bit in 1st gear and dump the clutch and then rip 2nd gear and it leaves good marks and smoke.

I think i want to do a 2nd gear burnout and ive done a couple impressive ones but I can't consistently pull it off (stall it most of the time and dont want to do this in front of people). I tried it a few times recently just to practice and wasnt very successful, i would rev high in 2nd, dump the clutch and then push the brake and keep giving gas but it would bring the rpms down and stall. I can do it super easy in 1st gear but the rpms get high quick and by the time i get into 2nd and slam the brake, the same thing happens. It either stalls or lugs.

Basically what is the best way to do a stand still burnout without moving forward?

I realize linelocks do help but I also know they arent necessary.

Put a brick in front of your front tires, rev to ~4K in 2nd and dump the clutch? I guess the best way is to do it the way you already described. Start off in 1st, quickly (very quickly) shift into 2nd gear and quickly put your foot back on the brake pedal. It does take some practice, but it can be done without a linelock.

Line lock is still gonna be your best friend. I had the same problem. Try it with a big cam and stock gear ratio.

Thumbs up

Keep it in first... no reason to shift into second. No reason to start in 2nd. 2nd gear and a 3.42 gear would kill your rpms.

A shift to 2nd while spinning first may wll take out your 2nd synchronizer. If you have done this awhile, you better rob the piggy for a rebuild.Burnouts searve no purpose other than destruction and belong only in a rental car, borrowed car from a bad friend or step dad.

I dont know why, but I Can do a 2nd gear still burnout with no problem. Stock motor just an air lid and stock gears. 3.42's. I just Start off in 1st and roast them. then shift to 2nd and lay on the brake. Thats usaually gets her done.

I never had a problem with my '95 Formula back when it was stock with a 3.42 gear.

type of tire probably has a big role in it and how well the clutch grabs.

Why not just start off in second? Or pedal it while burning out in first, I never go full throttle when doing a burnout in first. I never tried a second gear burnout, second gear donuts on the other hand . Don't really see the point unless you wanted it to look/sound good for a video/large groupe of people. Just hit 4k going up, drop clutch, slam brake, roast as needed, and leave sideways leaving a nice long smoky trail for all your fans.

put alittle water on the tires. and start off in second. if you get your tires hot and sticky in first, it will be harder to get them to break lose in 2nd.

Yeah hot tires are no good for burnouts. I went to do a burnout after a couple donuts one day and instead of burnt rubber, I got burnt clutch and brakes.

I agree a line lock helped me get consistent 60 foots at the track due to consistent heating of the tires.

Just rev it up in first, and dump the clutch, and get on the brake as soft as possible. Just enough to keep her from rolling.. Watch the tach, and keep the rpms where you want it, while the tires heat up. Ive done more than a few brake stands in Fbodys.

What's wrong with doing them just in 1st?? It's not hard to monitor the RPM and still watch the smoke.. (just curious)
