When racing, can't shift to third at 6K
I have an 02 Z28. It seems like when Im at 5700-6000 RPM, I can't put my shifter into 3rd gear. At first I thought I wasnt pushing the clutch in all the way. Then the other night I tried a few runs on the highway to make sure.
Started out in second at 4K and went all the way to about 5800, made sure the clutch was all the way in, and slammed it into third. It actually went this time, but took some muscle and made a grinding noise. At 5200 - 5500 it seems to go in alright, and at low RPM it goes in like butter. I have an after market short throw shifter, not sure what kind. My friend said it feels nicer than his PRO 5.0, so idk if its the shifters fault.
Anyone here have alot of problems going from 2nd to 3rd at high RPM ( 5.5K+ )?

It seems like I can go to 4th pretty easy at any RPM while racing. Hardest 1st - 2nd ive tried was 5K and it seems fine. Don't see any problems with normal driving. So far its just the dam 2nd to 3rd thats being a bitch.
EDIT: After doing some reading, I see some people had this problem and then did the drill mod with good results. There cars where pre 01 with the older hydrolics. My car is an 02, so would the drill mod be a waste?

If you have the stock clutch, the fingers on the pressure plate that get pushed by the TO bearing start to flatten out at high RPMs, making it extremely difficult to shift gears. I had your problem and switched to a RAM Powergrip HD and swapped out the slave while I was at it. No problems since.

I would try the free options first. I had the same problem, Drill mod and heat wrap the lines, third is smooth as all the others now. If that doesnt help then that is when i would start throwing out money.
