Default RAM Adjustable Master

I'm sorry I'm asking this as I'm sure it's been asked a thousand times but search isnt working for me right now

Likes and dislikes of the Ram Adjustable master cylinder? I planned on buying just a stock replacement for my clutch install (RAM HD) but on thunder racing they only have the Mccleod (WAY out of my price range) or RAM so i think i may just go for that one.......any comments/suggestions

I just put one in and I had to grind down one side of the rod end "eye" so I could fit the clip on that holds it to the clutch pedal. Other than that it seems like a nice piece, cheaper than a stock one from the stealership too.

I looked into the both the Ram and the McLeod. I have only seen pictures of the Ram, but it looks very similar to the stock piece (the housing seems to be made of the same nylon/plastic compound as the stock piece) with the exception of the of the adjustable rod end. If you get a master from GM parts direct and retro-fit a rod end to the stock piece, you will save a little money.

The Ram master is the stock piece made adjustable. I got it because I didn't feel like dealing with making a new stock one adjustable. I was able to get the clip on without grinding, but it wasn't easy. It needs to be ground so you can easily get the clip on.

Works fine so far, only maybe 1000 miles on it though.

Good info, guys. I wonder why they don't just make the "eye" different in the manufacturing process if it seems like everyone has the issue with the clip not fitting on.

I, too, am looking to replace my OEM master with an adjustable, but I'm hearing nothing but "I have to rebuild my master" from the guys who own McLeods, so I'm reading up about the RAM alternative.

Does anyone know about long-term reliability? I don't want to have to keep rebuilding the McLeod, so that would be a big plus for the RAM if they last.

EDIT: HA! I just realized how old this thread is.

old but still good info

" just put one in and I had to grind down one side of the rod end "eye" so I could fit the clip on that holds it to the clutch pedal. Other than that it seems like a nice piece, cheaper than a stock one from the stealership too"

i had to do the exact thing...obviously isnt a isolated problem. but again, a quick touch with a grinder and it was good as gold.

for the cost, i think the RAM is a great unit.

as for the eye...i'm sure it was a unit purchased from "out of company"...meaning RAM didn't make it. some 13yr old chinese kid did. RAM just welds it on the end of the shaft.

Cartek modifies a stock MC and makes it adjustable. That's what I'm running with my RAM DD and it works perfectly.

Their master and slaves are good pieces but their Powergrip clutch is cr@p in my experiance. Broke it in with 600 easy miles... took it to the track 2 times (~3 passes each time, easy 2.2 60's) and it crapped out on me after only 17k miles!!! Yah.. I was PISSED. I drive my car like granny on the street btw.
