Default T-56 Centering Question

I have a 2001 SS with the T-56 transmission. I have been having a bunch of trouble getting to 4th gear from 5th, I always seem to end up back in 6th. I notice if I bump the stick to the left in when out of gear in the center the stick bumps right back into the 3-4 shift zone (center) but if I bump it to the right into the 5-6 zone, it just stays there.

So is it supposed to work that way or is it supposed to center itself back into the 3-4 shift area (Center) when bumped to the right. Is this a function of transmission internals or of the shifter? I added one of the SLP rebuilt shifters and a short stick.

Should I just a different shifter?

Ok, I have verified that my T-56 should be centering itself from either side and is not. The only question that remains is, is this centering a function of the shifter or the transmission? I imagine the springs for this would be in the shifter itself right?

Yes I'd say its the shifter.

The Pro 5.0 shifter has some strong springs. Try that.

If you force it to the Left when its stuck to thr right what happens? Does it go or do you have to press the clutch in order to center the shifter.

This problem isn't anything major, I can live with it. Nothing is stuck and I can get into gears fine when I choose the correct one. The problem is if I pull down to the middle out of 5th gear, or up to the middle from 6th gear the shifter is supposed to center itself between the slot where 3rd and 4th are (right?) well mine is not. It will center itself when I pull out of first or second and from reverse, just not 5th and 6th. Obviously 3rd and 4th are already centered. I am just wondering if the problem is in the shifter or tranny, or in my head if this operation is normal.
