Spec 3 clutch grenaded (springs)
Well all the outside edges on the flywheel side of the disc that hold the springs in place broke off. One of the retainer edges was still in the bellhousing in one piece. The large springs stayed in there place and are slightly chewed up. The small springs inside the large springs all came out of the inside of the large spring. Most were recovered, in pieces. They were floating around in between the clutch disc and fly wheel, in the area that you bolt the flywheel to the motor. Non of the springs got between the disc and flywheel. The retainer snap that holds the TO bearing in place was snaped off also.
Clutch still gripped like a ****, I just had a vibration at 2500 to 3500 and occassionaly on start up I would get a hellacious grinding sound from the trany.
I assume all the little spring pieces gathered when you turned the motor off then when you restarted it they made a bunch of noise untill centrifugal force threw them up against something and they stayed there.
Anyone else ever have this happen? Anyone think spec would give me any support?

Ty, When and where was the unit purchased? Can you get some pics of the assembly emailed to me? For some reason the ones posted are not loading. Let me know and I will be happy to see what we can do. Thanks!

Springs coming out of disc has nothing to do with "grenading". Come on guys...the pressure-plate was not effected, nor were any other parts of the assembly. I am not at all being accusational in my explanation but these are a few things that lead to spring cage wear (remember, I have not seen this unit yet, as the pics won't load on the page above). That being said, increased input-shaft play, excessively abusive use, bad motor/trans mount, etc...can all cause increase wear on the spring cage. This is not rocket science...it is logic, and it can happen. At any rate, as soon as I get the pics in email I will work with the customer to resolve his issues. Thanks for your time. Let me know if you all need anything else.
