Default Picking out a Emission-Friendly Camshaft??

Hey guys, I need some help.

I'm putting together a Camshaft package for Spring 08. I was planning on a high-compression N/A motor with a 100-shot. I'm hoping for 425/400 N/A and 525/500 on Juice.

I have purchased some bare 243 Heads that I am home-porting. I would like to mill the heads and run thinner head gaskets. The cam I was thinking of was a 234/242 on a 110 LSA +4. I will need to flycut and I am still debating whether or not I should do so.

Should I go ahead with this setup? I checked out the overlap and I think it was around 18-20 degrees of overlap. I will fail emissions. I know they just check the OBD to see if I am throwing any codes, but what if they see my car and decide to put me on the sniffer? I was also planning to run cat-less. What should I do?

Well if you run catless you'd fail the sniffer even with a stock cam.

Luckily they don't use the sniffer or dyno anymore...It's strictly an OBD scan. So as long as you don't throw any codes you'll pass.

Don't mill the heads and don't fly-cut the stock pistons.

Thanks Boosted. I've heard that if a car was questionable, they'll perform a sniffer test though? I'm worried that they'll smell the fumes and give me a sniffer.

They will NOT put your car on any kind of a sniffer. Period. Those days are over. OBD scan only. They don't even test '95 and earlier in IL anymore.

In other words, EVERY cam is an emissions friendly cam.

My '00 car had a cam, headers, an ORY. When I tested, my tune was not dialed in, and the car was basically dumping raw fuel. They did not even blink an eye.

Correction, they couldn't blink bc they were crying their eyes out from the raw fuel being dumped out of your car.

yea as stated, no more sniffer....

I went in last year in my true dual camming hard 382 ... guy scanned it, I passed ... then first thing he asked me was "so what kind of tuning software do you use?"

lol young kid though, he didn't care

James, I was at the emissions testing center in bedford park, right in our neighborhood.
I pulled right in, you heard my car, FUMES frickin bumping. You know I have no cats too. The guy plugged into my OBD port, and gave me a paper that says pass. No questions nothing.
You just have to get the car dyno tuned and they will delete the rear o2's the AIR ****, the skip shift ****. Call me I'll let you know. PS how's the new suspension???

Who is gonna do the Cam and Tune?

Ok, I'm going with a big G5X3 on a 110 LSA. About 18 degrees of overlap!
