Meals Ready To Excrete
Soldiers serve up amusing mixed reviews of military grub-in-a-bag
AUGUST 20--Next year, the U.S. military will begin production of a new line of Meals, Ready-to-Eat, those indestructible chow packages that help sustain American soldiers. MREs, which are distributed to servicemen during operations where regular meal preparation is not possible, are packaged to last for three years (or six months in 100 degree temperatures). The new MREs were developed, in part, after a late-2005 taste test involving 400 soldiers stationed at Fort Greeley in Alaska. Each serviceman involved in the field evaluation filled out comment forms, which were then compiled in a report prepared by Department of Defense officials. A copy of that entertaining document, filled with the blunt appraisals of junior Frank Brunis, can be found below. Eight complete meals were tested, with mixed results. One soldier complained that a chicken and dumplings MRE triggered, "a flatulence symphony in my tent all night." A stuffed cabbage MRE led one evaluator to exclaim, "The meal sucked! Do you even try this crap before you give it to us?" That same MRE also led another reviewer to write, "Don't ever give the stuffed cabbage to a soldier again, even POWs deserve better." One evaluator questioned whether the new MREs should actually be tested by non-military diners: "Soldiers will eat all of this nastiness no matter what, because we have to eat." Not all reviews were negative, however, especially when it came to a chicken loaf MRE with a tasty dessert. "The vanilla pudding is so good that I ripped it open. Licked the inside and rolled around on top of it like a dog," one enthusiastic soldier noted.

I honestly can't say anything bad about the new ones but hate those hard energy bars (not the chocolate ones)
Even most of the old ones I don't mind at all.
But then again they say I have an iron stomach.
Now those old K meals or whatever (bit aluminum pans, pull back the aluminum top, heat and heat) TORE ME UP!!!!!!!!, nice and rubery.......

"Trade for stuffed cabbage?!?!!?? ANYONE??? ...... I"ll take your Peanut butter!"
That's going to be one hard meal to trade....
I really don't mind MRE's.. I'll eat grass if I have to... Just put some salt on it, it ant that bad... BUT, MRE's really do stop up your system... hell, after a week w/ some. One guy didn't s**t for two weeks when we first got to Afghanistan. The IDMT had to give him something and he was at the hooch for two days... staying close to the out houses... (porta john islands we had there. I forgot what the Army called them)
My Fav's, Country Captain Chicken, Manacotti, Chili Mac (of course).. and acouple more I'm forgetting. and I've never had a desert that I didn't like.. Even the pllain crackers w/ PB is good to me...

Chili Mac and Tabasco FTMFW yo!!!! Beef stew is bangin as hell too!
But yea, if you eat the whole thing and not just the main course you won't crap right for two weeks....
I like em though! Super easy and once you learn the tricks, yum yum!!!
Anyone ever make chocolate pudding out of the cappucino mix. God that stuff is good w/ just a little water. Man when you're out in the field w/ limited rations that stuff tastes good as hell!

I always thought it stood for Meals Reducing Excrement.
I'd say my favorite is the beef stew, though the roast is pretty good, too.
They sure do start getting old after a week or so. That's the longest I've eaten them.

Yeah, the Jamacian Pork Chop was awesome, that was one of my favorites. The Thai Chicken wasn't bad.
My all time favorite was the Beef Stew, though. Tasted just like the Dinty Moore in a can.

You know there's a reason why they put those tiny *** bottles of tobasco sauce in every MRE.
A long time ago they used to have the omelette MRE. That tasted like rubber dogshit no matter how much tobasco you put on there. I'm glad they got rid of it.

I always thought the best MRE when I was in was the Ravioli. It came with cheese and crackers. Mix all 3 up and heat it up with the tabasco...yum! Worst was the Frankfurters. I'd rather eat MRE's than the T-rats that were in the peel-away tins, especially the "omellete with ham", that **** was just cruel and unusual to a soldier.

In the desert someone wrote on our whiteboard "I want to find this country captain, so I can kick his ***" referring to the awful country captain chicken MRE. Im not wild about any of them except the beef stew, and the kickass tortellini w/cheese meal.
