**Ever see a REAL nitrous explosion/fire? **
Again, another vid from Piedmont Dragway. They have some amazing footage!
Watch the vid ...you will see a STREAM of fire coming from what used to be the snorkel scoop. Again, the guy came out okay...thanks for safety equipment.

This is no such think as a nitrous fire. Never has been never will be. O2 or oxegen is not flamelbe nore is nitrous. Put them together and they are still not flamible. See you have a fuel (race gas) then you have the air with alowes to to burn. If you add O2 then it cause the fire to burn hotter. If O2 was flameble than we would all be on fire all the time.

1st, a fire or explosion, needs 3 components to occur. As stated in my previous post, guess what they are: HEAT, FUEL (or a fuel source), and OXYGEN . WOW!

Sorry, that fire is not fed by nitrous. His fuel pump is running like mad. 100PSI of fuel will do that to you. You can see the nitrous spraying out of the car, but the fire is not growing or fueling where the nitrous is. Watch where the fire is actually coming from, it's off the ground.
Now there is no question that a nitrous back fire started it. Usually what happens is the intake pops up and either rips out the injectors (for EFI cars) or rips up the fuel lines. That fire is really being fueled by a pump that is still running, that's why it climbed to the back of the car so fast. High octane race fuel will find it's own oxygen when it gets out.
Yes nitrous burns because it has oxygen. But a little more chemistry would tell you that the molecule is too stable to burn without compression. You have to split it first before you can release the oxygen molecule from it's molecular bond. It's the same argument for using oxygen in water to fuel cars. Figure out how to split the hydrogen off and you'll have oxygen. It's easier to do with nitrogen atoms. You can actually see in the video that the nitrous is fanning the flames on the hood of the car and the fire is actually growing towards the back of the car.
Many of us have talked about this locally here. We were all debating about putting a master electrical kill switch in the car right next to the Halon extinguisher handle.

Basic Chem. lesson 2: heat can and will break down or decompose a molecule.
So, explain to me again how a nitrous explosion occurs in an intake?
