Default Question on replacing electronic gauge cluster w/ one w/ higher miles

If I replaced an electronic gauge cluster w/ one that had higher miles than my car actually has, would the cluster then show the higher miles? I'm assuming yes but hoping the mileage is stored somewhere other than inside the cluster for security reasons (ie unscrupulous car dealers changing out the cluster to one w/ lower miles).

If its anything like a Ford, you cannot swap the cluster with the circuit board. The circuit board is where the mileage is stored so if you swap the circuit board from your current cluster over to the new one, then the correct mileage should show. If you did not swap the circuit board, the cluster would show the wrong mileage and the vehicle would not start. The computer does not recognize the different cluster circuit board and does not allow the starting sequence to commence. Again, this is how the Ford clusters work.

The miles are stored in the cluster and only in the cluster. If your dealer is like my dealer, they will not adjust millage unless they replace the cluster themselves. Easiest thing to do is to look on line. There are many companies that can adjust the millage on the new cluster to match what's on your car.

I swapped my clusters to test some lighting mods I did on the one I'm not using, cluster stores the miles. It will read whatever it read from the car it was in.

yes its in the cluster it self.
my 04 escalade ext had a recall on the cluster because of gauges acting wiere and not showing what there suposed to so they replaced it for free and my truck had 69k miles on it.
they put the new one in and hooked it up to a laptop and put the miles back in.

im thinking that a tuning suite like hp tuners car also mess with the miles but im not shure some one told me that.
