Default Royal purple 0w-40

Did a little searching but couldn't find anything on this oil. I wanted to run M1 0w-40 but couldn't get any (my oil selection is limited) so i figured I would try the RP. Is this too thick for the LS1?

I've ran everything from RP 5-30 to M1 0-40 to GC 0-30 to AMsoil 5-40 and can't tell too big of a difference between them. I just wanted some opinions on this RP 5-40 before i put it in there. Thanks guys.

Well, amsoil and german castrol are the top 2 best oils out there. RP is what I used to run, was fine and all but it isnt what it used to be and it isnt in the top 5 anymore. Can I ask why your running such a thin oil anyays? Out of curiosity I mean lol

Well it was just my understanding that with a low startup viscosity the oil would flow better when it was cold and lubricate the upper valvetrain and such, and once the engine heated so would the oil, which results in a thinner, better flowing oil. I think that is right?

I really like the Amsoil but not enough to pay 10 bucks a quart lol. And the GC is so hard to find.

If I had to switch from GC 0-30, I would go with Mobil one and then my 3rd choice would be RP 0-40. I don't see how a 40 straight would be a problem, as the number before it doesn't mean much after start up.

Yea idk where you heard that? I run 20w50 and 15w50 in my car all day long. The thick oil acts as a cushion even though it could take some power away, but when your talking about good **** like amsoil, german castrol, and stuff like that, you really shouldnt worry as they are ALL good top of the line oils to begin with.
