New w/ some questions
I have just purchased a 2002 ss slp Camaro. My 1st few questios are the 3rd tail light is cracked and i need a new lens...where to get one? I would like to lower the stance of the car just a hair...best way? I woukld like to get new tires and will be driving it on the street but also going to the track every so often..what tires? drag radial? increase the rear tire size? My first car that is not a classic so i'm not new to cars or racing but new to these newer model cars...Thanks--

As far as tires go, I'm running Nitto nt 555s and they are great street tires. You can also get nt555r drag radials which are also of good quality. If you're wanting you're car lower the cheapest way is lowering springs, most of which I've seen offered are 1.5 to 2in. Drops.

Welcome to the site man, there is a newbie section on this forum with tons of info in regards to what you are asking. Here's a link https://ls1tech.com/forums/new-ls1-o...newbie-tech-4/
An easy place to find the third taillight housing is ebay, just search the year/model of your car an you'll find it eventually. Or go over to the classified in this forum and you'll usualy find someone parting out thier car that might be able to help you out. If you're still sporting the stock rims then the widest I could find for mine back then was a 255/40R16. There's a sponsor here OE Wheels that has great deals on rims and set them up to fit perfect for our cars. I run a set from them 17x9.5 front and 17x11 rear with 315/35R17's mounted out back, these rims install perfect without any BFH mods. A lot of people run Nitto tires but there are a lot of options ot there, depends on what you can afford. As far as lowering your car... well you can simply cut your springs but you will eventually regret it. To do it right it will cost you some cash, but damn these cars look great lowered.

Yeah I forgot the stock SS rims are 17x9, I was thinking the 16x8's that are on the Z28's and TA's. 275/45R17's look and fit just fine for those wheels. I've seen a set that were widened to 11's for the rear and looked awesome.

Also the ride is quite a bit more comfortable than the 245s i had on my old camaro. the only downside is that good tires for this size are a bit more pricey but totally worth it

Yeah , i have stock wheels and just want 1 size larger on the rear and a slightly better tire for the track. I only drove the car a short while due to it raining today. Handles well, sounds good, i like it so far. I really can't believe how clean the car is underneath. SPOTLESS, i guess the guy never did drive it in the rain.

I don't know the exact model but there are Corvette Rims with 275 in front and 315 in the back. And that sounds awesome! I hope you take good care of it like the previous owner did!

with all these responses im surprised no one mentioned that youll need an adjustable panhard bar when you lower the car to center the rearend. and as far as nittos go, id run a hard compound tire on the street and save the nittos for the track. just get some cheap rims to put the nittos on.

Also the LCA relo bracket but I kept it simple by saying doing it right will cost him some cash. Aside from some good springs he'll need some shocks that will handle a lowered ride and those aren't cheap. Everything he'll need to know first hand should be in the newbie tech link.

Thanks for all the help. I'm trying to absorb all this info and navigate around here. I checked on a few tires and no one has them. Still haven't looked real hard. Prob gonna go to the track and see what happens this weekend.

275/40R17* not 45 im pretty sure right? both friends camaro and my ta had 275/40R17s, but yeah for the 17x11s in back with 315s, its pretty nice, i have the nitto 555Rs and i DD on them, there actually pretty sticky in the rain (more then i like lol) and are pretty driver friendly, there lasting decently too, for how i treat them lol, maybe only hald way and had for 4k miles? give or take, and thats a couple of circle track races no drags yet, and to and from work with a few hard street launchs, i highly recommend them but they are wearing faster then a norm street tire but, if u want or need the added traction there good
btw sig pic is the ZR1 17x11s in rear with 17x9.5s up front
