Question Disabling Skip Shift

Does anyone know how to disable the skip shift? I read in one of the threads you can do it with a simple resistor. but where does it go and what value resistor do you need?

I have the skip shift eliminator module that plugs inline with the tranny wiring, underneath the car, pretty simple plug and play. I never used it since I eliminated it in the computer. You can have it for $15.

Don't waste your money on the eliminator, just use the link that Julian posted and fix it for $1. It only takes 5 minutes to put in.

That CAGS only bothers me in traffic but I have learned to ignore it and just let it go to 4th. I mean if you are stuck in heavy traffic it doesn't matter anyway--you can't get on it. But anywhere else I usually wind it out far enough where I don't even know it's there. ;-)

I hate CAGS. It is unbelievably annoying in traffic. I usually end up winding 1st gear up high enough until the light goes off. So much for the better gas mileage it's supposed to create.

I'll be disabling mine as soon as I have time.

When I had the skip shift enabled, it almost caused me to get rear-ended quite a few times as it would dump into 4th gear at the worst times.

There should have been a switch on these cars where you can disable CAGS manually, similar to traction control. The 'idea' of trying to save gas by using a higher gear is nice. But since this is a MANUAL transmission, you'd think that the driver should decide what gear to be in. Otherwise, I would have gotten the A4. Needless to say, !CAGS was my first 'mod'.

!CAGS is deffinatly a pain and a waste. I agree 100% that if you buy a manual leave it up to the driver to pick what gear to put the car in. I did the skip shift eliminator w/ a short throw shift kit for my first 2 mods. Well worth it. The skip shift light still comes on but it is bypassed. Well worth the money. Took me about 5 minutes to do once i got under the car and found the plug next to the tranny. Good luck!

Thanks for the link! I located the correct plug and added the resistor today. It's great! And easy to do - just a tight squeeze to get under the car. You guys are awsome - the local shop wanted to charge me $40 for the inline part and $60 for the installation. I bought two ramps at the local Kragen for $20 and the 0.99 resistor at Radio Shack and did it myself in 10 minutes.
