Your talking a major price difference here!! But if you have the money do both, maybe even rebuild the motor (like a 383..since you have that kind of mileage anyway) and do a cam fit to those cubes an then suspension mods/supporting mods..a turbo won't help you much if you break your whole drivetrain!!

^?????? you have to tear into the engine to do a cam, honest turbo is big bucks, and FI will be, im someone who doesnt worry about miles, but i would for sure get the block checked out before you start throwng a bunch of money at it, imo if you have the cash go with a boost cam and a pro charger, and work on putting together a forged motor, its really what budget you have to work with, if you have a bone stock car i would start with bolt ons and move up from there

and dont let a cam swap scare you, there are tons of write ups that you can follow, in these cars there not that bad to do

I did my cam at 130k, I wouldn't worry about mileage too much of the car was taken care of. It's a time consuming job but not hard.. Honestly worst part on my end was replacing the oil pump o ring and doing the valve spring replacement under the stupid cowll.

A cam (isn't) going to do much without supporting mods

^^ You mean isn't, Cause you would have to upgrade Valvesprings, pushrods, timing chain, maybe the oil pump, Headersand Y pipe, intake manifold since its a 98, clutch or stall, lid or cai, etc.

The cam needs more air, breathe in and breathe out!

Agreed, start with bolts ons and go from there

Meh.. I saw descent gains with a 'not worth the time' cam. Not everyone has to gain 100rwhp hp to be happy.

If I had it all to do over again, I would go forced induction from the start. Add a procharger or an STS kit. I got caught up in bolting everything that I could to the car, going bigger and bigger with the cam. Adding cubes. Building for nitrous. In the end, I spent more than I would have spent for a turbo/supercharger and could have made similar power. If you have the means, I would recommend going forced induction first, then add the supporting mods as you go (of course, you will break a lot of the drivetrain as stated earlier and if it is an auto, no question you should get a stall first).

Aren't most turbo set-ups around $6k+? I would think you could easily and safely get into the mid-upper 400s with $6k NA and still not be doing FI.
