As far as I know that's not an either or type situation as the FTRA doesn't come with a lid. So you have to buy an aftermarket lid either way. When it comes to the CAI stuff I've always been a bigger fan of the SSRA.

Also, have you researched the free mods yet?? Those are a great starter thing and you don't have to spend a bit of cash.

I would agree though that the first mods to do are going to be the bolt-on intake and exhaust stuff.

Oh and BTW, I'm running Mac Mids with a Off road Y. To do it over again I'd probably run Pacesetters. I would recommend pacesetters for you if you are operating off of a budget.

Hooker comp headers non coated are a good budget buy also. Then pick up a can of VHT ceramic coating and spray them yourself.

If it's an automatic you need a stall. 3200-3600 from a good company like Circle D, Yank, etc. No TCI junk.

Since you just bought it I would do a full tune up. plugs, wires, fuel filter, change all fluids to synthetic.

I did 3.73 gears as a first mod. Really seemed to wake the car up.

Headers or Stall, apart from a full tune-up.

agree, the op states he has 500$ that's only enough to get him the air lid and a ls2 maf sensor with its pigtail .. there you go approx 150$ left (maybe way less).

he could do both here and there a bit

Pacesetters are an awesome buy for how cheap they are. That being said, are you doing the work yourself or having a shop install whatever you end up getting?

$500 really isn't a lot for mod money. You could definitely get a lid and ported/polished throttle body, or JUST long tube headers. Either set of mods is a good way to go.

I would put the money towards a good stall and do the free mods yourself.

yeah i know maybe i should just save up and go all out when i have a few grand saved up, thing is i got beat in a race with this chick driving a TA..barely..but it still pissed me off lol so i was gunna throw on a bolt on or two and have a redo, but can you actually tell a difference with a bigger throttle body or even ported and polished? cuz ive heard people say that its not necessary and others say they noticed a immediate difference in throttle response. (not an expert on all things car BTW)

ive ordered some msd spark plug wires and ngk spark plugs but the last plug on the passenger side looks ******* impossible to get to, do i have to jack the front up and get at it from underneath the motor or something? any tips?

when i did my pnp throttle body i noticed the throttle response was much crisper, but for 500 bucks id say maybe get lt's either pacesetters or even bbk setup and do free mods, or even better get a nitrous kit hit it with like 75 for now..

Is your car an A4 or M6 (automatic 4 speed or manual 6 speed FYI)?

Either way, I vote SLP lid with a K&N filter ($100 tops), POTZ P/P throttle body (~$45), and all the free mods. All that's easily worth a real 10-15RWHP. And for $150, you can't ask for much more. Also look into a Frost tune. Stock tunes are especially restrictive. Should keep you happy for a bit and leave you $200 for gas money for fun.

Yeah, you'll definitely have to get that one from underneath. its easy if you disconnect the cat and y-pipe. you can get your hand up there pretty easily. Maybe you can without doing it, but I couldn't I put headers on while I was changing my plugs lol.
