Default Donaldson Airlid, who has one.....

And will it fit a '98 SS, how and what do I have to do to make it work. Is is worth it? Or should I go with Whisper, reg SLP, G2, TSP, etc.?

Blackwing is the brand, Donaldson is the manufacturer
of filters (I don't know if they make the lid, or who,
that SLP put onto the SS models as an option). It
is a snap-in stock lid replacement so I reckon it will
fit any '98-'02 Camaro.

It's a good-enough lid, it is almost certainly the most
rugged of them all, its performance may not be quite
as good as some of the later designed one like TSP
but it is clean and works fine with 85mm MAFs.

If you are being tempted by SLP's to-the-casual-eye
lower pricing, be advised that all the little bits and
pieces are ala carte and you will be nickel and dimed
until they get their dollar. Best off to scrounge for a
complete one (all the rubber bits, clamps, etc.) used.

ditto what JimmyBlue said.

I run one as well, on my 98, the only thing i had to do was put a 3/4" hose cap on the air hose.

Found it used, for about 1/10th slp's price. complete

Sounds like it will work if I can find one. Yes, it looks like SLP is going to nickel and dime the money outta ya for each little piece here and there to make up their full price.

I bought my slp lid and just put it on and drove happy. What am I missing? It came with the extra air hose and elbow fitting, as well as the clamp for the MAF.

Did you get just the regular SLP lid or the blackwing?

SLP still sells the Blackwing lid with all accessories, OEM
safety sticker and all, for a high price. But to hook the
unsuspecting they have also broken up the "kit" and
have the lid (minus the oval-to round, the round MAF hose,
the IAT sensor, the AIR hose extension & clip, do-dah,
do-dah) priced at a hundred and something, hose clamp
at 8 bucks, etc.

People have gotten these for great prices used, it makes
me somewhat depressed since I bought mine the week
after I found out my 335HP SS package didn't have the
OE lid (I was sitting on a pile of cash at the time, no
longer a problem...).

Question

Since the Blackwing can be bought in pieces, does anyone know if you can just purchase the oval to round boot connector, shown here, to use with the stock lid. The idea being to keep the more durable OEM lid, but remove some of the restriction due to the baffles/airbox section?

won't work as the stock lid, is a female connector, and that goes onto a male portion of the blackwing lid.

just buy the better blackwing lid.

Yeah, realized that this afternoon after I posted it. Oh well, I guess my cheap butt will just have to put up the money for a real setup!! Hopefully I can find someone who changed to an aftermarket lid and wants to sell their Blackwing. I don't see myself dropping a few hundred at SLP for a new one. At that price I could buy a couple lids from the other shops, even if they do crack, and still spend less.
