Exclamation LS1 year numbers?????

How can I tell what year LS1 motor I have? Reason I'm asking is because I bought a LS1/T56 set. It was supposed to be from a 2000 T/A. But there are......some issues....that make me think otherwise.

Here are some numbers I have gotten off of the motor..

12550682 <---part number???

9801206 : 152 <---serial number???

One other thing...the wiring harness has this green, 20-pin connector on it that looks like it might be for an automatic transmission(mine was supposed to be a manual).

a 2000 motor, will have a set of cast exhaust manifolds, and have EGR, unique to the 2000 year only.

if they are tubular, its a 98-99

and if the heads have perimiter bolt valve covers, then its a 1998

if it does not have EGR, its either from a vette, or a 2001+ But doubtful, they woudl sell it as a 2000, if it was newer. (and has a ls6 intake)

if it was a 98, other than higher milage due to the years, your lucky, as the 98's are borg warner, and 99+ are tremec-borg warner units, (may have both borg warner, and tremec stamps on it)

but with a 98 motor, make sure you get the 98 harness, and computer, or change the coolant temp sensor to a 2 wire one, and use a 99+ computer and harness, and make sure you adjust the programming, or swap injectors to match the programming in the computer.

The harness that was on the motor is useless. It is so mangled and smashed I don't think it is salvagable. The whole deal sucks bad.....I was supposed to be getting a 2000 CamaroSS LS1/T56...that's waht was paid for........but I got this mess instead.

Default Where did you buy this setup from

Did you buy this engine and trans off EBay? You should follow up on this. If you paid for a newer 2000 engine and got a 98 instead, plus your harness is messed up I think you should try to get the seller to knock off 500 dollars or more. If the seller won't make good you could post some bad feedback on him if you purchased off Ebay. If you used Paypall you could dispute it with them. I am allways leary of buying a used engine and trans unless you can see it in the car and check the mileage, and hear it run before they take it out and you buy it. A lot of times its better off to buy a rebuilt or new engine and trans. This way is more expensive but you start off fresh. When I used to work in the shop many times we had problems with used engines and trans and had to pull them again and exchange. The wrecking yard guarenteed the part but we were still out the labor. I would see if the seller would refund you a couple of bucks off the price. If you allready had the engine shipped to you it doesn't pay to return it.

LOL
