Slight increase in power.
Marginal increase in MPG.
Marginal amount of weight reduction.
Less connection points to leak when building a complete aftermarket system.
Better ground and undercarrige clearance with headers.
Better exhaust note, depending on muffer (opinion).
Better exhaust smell (opinion).

Will not pass a visual inspection> may not apply to you
May not pass emissions on rollers > may not apply to you
You get that warm fuzzy feeling that you are doing your part to protect the
environment as you park your car at the chemical co. where you work.
You remove them and put them in the basement.....Now you have cats in the house

I went with an ORY when I added long tubes. Picked up horribly loud trumpet/jackhammer rasp when accelerating around 2,000rpms and running a cutout. Got rid of cutout and replaced the catback...toned down and refined the sound of the rasp but did not eliminate it. I like the way it sounds now, personally, but I know there is a portion of the LS1 community that are very fussy about how their exhausts sound and do whatever they can to eliminate rasp. If you're one of those who can't stand rasp, keep your cats. If you like the sound of a bad*** musclecar that will make a straight-pipe Harley guy jump in his seat when you romp on the gas, get rid of the cats.

Hmmmm....I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that Magnaflow, and even a Flowmaster merge, could help with the trumpeting but not completely eliminate it... I was under the impression from other threads in the forum that you're pretty much stuck with a certain amount of rasp once the cats come out...?

I'm running 1 3\4" Pacesetter LTs and ORY with a lot of massaging (that ORY is a POS)
Magnaflow CB and electric cut-out. Exhaust sound is pretty subjective but I really like
it. No rasp.
