Default im need help!!!!

hi guys im new to this site cause im in deperate need of advice and help. I recently bought an slp dual catback exhaust for my 2000 trans am and I got aftermarket long tube headers to go along with it. my question is do I need an aftermarket y-pipe as well and what do I do with the catalytic converter? can I reuse it? or do I need an adapter for it to fit with the headers and y-pipe?

1. Yes you will need an aftermarket/custom y-pipe to make everything work together.
2. The stock cats will not work with aftermarket LT headers...you'll either need to buy aftermarket cats or ditch them altogether. What you decide to do will help you determine what y-pipe to get (or have made).

I vote no cats if you don't have to worry about emissions

The reason you need to get a new y-pipe is because the length of the stock exhaust manifolds is very short so the stock y-pipe (with cats) has to reach up into the engine compartment to connect to the manifolds. It will be the opposite for long tubes. The tubes actually extend down and out under the car so you need a much shorter y-pipe to connect the headers to the intermediate pipe.

Be sure to look on places like craigslist before throwing out your old cats; there are usually people who buy used cats for about $50/cat.

Have fun installing your exhaust

I would probably put the headers on, and drive to the local muffler shop with the cat back in the trunk, and have them connect it all for you. Or for that matter, install as much of the cat back as you can. Here locally, 2 2 foot sections of pipe installed should be 50 bucks or less.

You will need a aftermarket y pipe with no cats or a catted y pipe.
