GOAL IS 400 Horsepower! NOW WHAT!
Currently own a 2000 SS. BEEN debating whether to go with LT's or Shorty's as of as to reach my goal that's 400HP. Right now I'm leaning more towards shorty's since I'm living in Cali.(smog issues) Been doing my research mostly everyone saying why spend the money. I know a few people in the Bay Area who currently runs them and no complaints, I had them on my LT1 and loved them except when the time of the year came around in which smog was require to renew registration.
My goal is to get to 400HP will shorty's get me there or would it be a stupid mistake spending the money?
What else do I upgrade to reach my goal.
Current Mods.
SLP lOUDMOUTH ll
SLP Lid(K&N Air Filter)
SMOOTH BELLOW
MSD WIRES
Where do i go from here to reach my goal?

Full bolt ons will get you 400 CRANK hp. Long tubes - ORY - Catback - LS6 intake - Ported TB - Lid - Underdrive pulley.
A mild cam with full bolt ons will put you in the 360rwhp-400rwhp range depending on the dyno.
My heads/cam car is right at the 420rwhp/390rwtq mark. Give or take depending on the dyno. Also depends if your an M6 or A4. 6 speed cars are dyno queens.

Since you're working around a more restrictive exhaust manifolds/shorty headers and the cam need to have at least -6* overlap the easy option(big cam) isn't a option, so it's going to cost more for the same amount of power gain.
So, is it worth it ?
YES, if you can do almost all the work yourself.
First, what trans do you have M6 or A4 ?
If you have a A4 trans then get a high stall TC first(3k-3600)
Next you'll want to get a SLP LS6 intake manifold(with EGR).
Now as far as cams you'll want at least a 6* I/E split and need to keep the overlap down to at least -6*.
Here's a few cam that would work, that all have at least -6* overlap or more:

http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...oducts_id=4630

You can also go larger with a custom cam like a 222/230 116+4.
your options with to or at 400rwhp. Another option is to go with aftermarket heads (milled for 11.0:1 SCR)that have a CARB EO number, like AFR does, but that's a lot more money, and you could also get a FAST 102 intake manifold since it also has a CARD EO number but that also a lot more money and IMO, overkill with this type of build.
