Newby ECU Question
I was able to talk to the tech at the referee office here in Denver.
To pass the initial inspection on my swap I need my car to have all the emissions gear installed and working with all codes reading the equivalent of functioning properly.
Our discussion went sorta like this.
Me. I want to put a 6.0l from a truck in my 79.
Tech. Can't do that. Must be a light duty swap. The 05 Corvette had a 6.0.
Me. Why not. I'm willing to put on all the emissions items, even air pumps if needed.
Tech. Can't do a heavy duty application in a car. The 05 Corvette had a 6.0 and does not use air pumps.
So with that I left and while I was driving home it dawned on me that tech sure did talk a lot about the 05 Corvette. (dingdong).
So here is my question. I currently have a 98 f-body harness and ECU.
Can this be reprogrammed with a vin so it reads 05 Corvette or do I need a 05 Corvette ECU? If so, where is the best place to have this done?
I do realize that no matter what I will need a proper tune before visiting the emissions testing station.
