V6 to V8 swap?
Has anyone ever swapped an LS1 into a firebird? A buddy of mine has a wrecked 98 T/A and a 98 firebird, he wants to swap the entire drivetrain.
Im trying to decide if its worth it or not, I will probably have to do most of the work.
if anyone has done this, please tell me what is involved. Will the V6 K-member work? Will the wiring be the same?etc..?

unless you're doing it for fun or for the experience.....if the car was wrecked take the insurance money and go find a nice t/a.

if you have the 2 car, both 1998's thats 1/2 way there.
if you have lift access, drop the K members, swap whole motor/tranny assemblys.
swap fuel tanks, and lines, and swap engine harnesses, jumper 1 wire to power to the coils, and you should be set.
I know there are a few steps missing here, but you have the best way to do the swap, full donor car, and same year (98 stays with 98's and 99-02 with 99-02 and you'll be fine for wiring/tank/ect.

If you are thinking about doing headers, heads, cam, bmr k-member, etc., it's SO easy to do all that at the same time as the swap.
Makes the swap time just part of the mod time. It's not that bad of a job, if you can get the front of the car up. I put my LS1 actually into the car by myself. (had some much appreciated help with other parts of the job though...) The engine and tranny were on a low furniture moving dolly. Put the shock towers in first. Then jack up the k-member into the frame. It has 2 locating pins on it. Piece of cake...
Yes, getting power on pin B of the gray connector on the passenger fenderwell is the only thing that's not obvious. The LS1 has INJ1 and INJ2 circuits in the underhood wiring, and the v6 has only INJ1. It's just 12v power on one pin. You can jumper it from another 12v ignition switched wire. It feeds power to the injectors and the coils on one bank.
