Distilled is the way to go. Depending on your tap water, you could have more minerals and sometimes iron that would help start rust in iron blocks. It might not hurt the aluminum block, but I always run distilled water.

yes to the distilled. its cheap, and an assurance against corrosion. just another affirmation from me.

First of all - NEVER a dumb question. Have told that dozens of times to my students after 34 years teaching Earth Science.
Second - pretty sure ANY tap water contains a mixture of minerals that could cause a multitude of chemical reactions in your system, if used.
Distilled is probably the safe way to go. Good luck to you.
