Default Stock exhaust diameter?

What is the stock diameter of the LS1 exhaust? Is it a must for a huge HP improvement? I was possibly thinking of just keeping the stock muffler for a while and putting on a test pipe in place of the cat. I will probably be doing this until I can get the cash together for some LT's and TD's.

Non-SLP cars: 2.5" Y-pipe, 2.75" I-pipe, 2.5" tail pipes

SLP cars: 2.5" Y-pipe, 3" I-pipe, 2.5" tail pipes

I know the 3" catback helps power along with the better muffler. Honestly I don't know which would give the best gain, off road pipe/stock system or 3" catback, but gutted cats and O2 sims are cheaper than a catback.

Ok, sweet. I would think 2.5" exhaust would be good to about 400hp or so but I may be wrong. Hopefully I can temporarily replace the cat with a ORP and maybe the stock muffler with a hooker aerochamber.

My measurements showed that on my Z28 with a 2.75" I pipe, it actually measured 2.5" at the muffler inlet. Just something to think about.

Yep, I've got my stock muffler laying right here in my basement. It's definitely 2.5 at the muffler inlet. I kept my stock 'I' but my Magnaflow has a 3 inch inlet. You gotta ditch the stock muffler.
