check engine light?
just picked up my 98 z28, so sweet, anyways, i had a inspection done on it and the service engine soon light didnt come on during the check. (key on, but engine not running), then did it again, same thing, one more try, ok it came on. check the owners manual and said it should come on every time. ive tried it a couple more times and havent been able to get it to come back on. i dont think it affects the car, but if it doesnt come on the im supposed to fail the inspection(aka no registration) please advise...
thanks
josh
ps-wasnt sure if this was the right forum, so let me know if it should go somewhere else

It should illuminate when you turn the key to RUN - not sure about ACC, never tried it. If it's not coming on at all an easy way to see if the bulb is working is to pull the AIR PUMP fuse - won't hurt anything and the SES should come on after a couple cold starts, and go back off after some more starts after replacing the fuse.
Edit: In ACC none of mine illuminate.

Go to your local autoparts store and have it scanned. If they do not tell you what the code means look it up here:

Peace,

I'd say either change the bulb, or have somebody with a TECHII scan it.
Peace,
Craig.

Whenever you resolve this, post back up in here and let us know what had happened. It will help others out.

Actually mine doesn't always come on either. When it's cooled down, it always seems to come on. Usually if the car is warm (restarted after only sitting a minute or two) my SES light won't come on in "run". This goes for my `02 M6 and my old `99 A4. I think it 100% normal. Neither car had any problems when scaned.
