what should i buy first?
so i just got my fairly descent tax refund i was stuck on the fact that i wanted to buy me a set of headers and a y-pipe with it, then i started reading about torque converters and how much they add to the fun factor. i guess what i am asking is do you think a the header y-pipe setup should go first or the converter? i currently have a magnaflow catback, whisper lid if that is a factor but i just need some advice thanks!

I'd go with a 3200 stall and if your wallet allows I would also go for a set of 3.73 gears. The two mods will compliment each other well and you can leave the headers for your next mod.

Fuddle, Yank, Precision...etc. Really shop around for a good price. An hour and a couple phone calls could save you a few bucks... also are you going to install it yourself or have a shop do it? If your going to have a shop do it, you might want to buy it through them... they might be able to save you a few bucks. If Fuddle is having a sale, call them up and tell them what you want... and see what kind of deal they can work out for you. There are a buch of companies that make quality converters, just shop around for who will give you one for the best price.

Converter, definitely. What gears do you have now?
Don't do 3.73s in a stock 10 bolt, you'll be breaking them soon enough on a DR. 60 times on a DR with 3.23s and 3.73s are nearly identical, with the 3.73 being more inconsistent and limited by the tire and suspension. Of course you would go quicker with 3.73s on a slick, but that rearend wouldn't last very long.
I would much rather see 3.23s with a converter in the 3600-4000 range if you plan on using a drag radial. It's really easy to make it hook with 3.23s.
Fuddle makes good stuff, and they're a hell of a lot cheaper than yank, and a bit cheaper than the vigilantes. And by cheap, I don't mean crappy. If I could do it over again, I would have gone with a fuddle...and I have a $700 vigilante. Only issue with Fuddle is that you might be waiting a few weeks before you get the convertor.
PM me about converter selection for streetracing...I am a professional.
