Default What mods for an 02 Camaro SS?

I bought a 35th ann. Camaro last year...paid 22k for it with only 8k miles... so now a year later after putting many exterior cosmetic products on (stripe kit, grille, letter fill-in, etc) i want to beef my ls1 up inside.....

So im asking someone who knows what to do to help me out... all i know so far is that i have an SLP exhaust system on it (came with car from previous owner) that added about 45HP...and my hood intake is called "Blackwing"???(dont know if thats stock or what??)

I dont know much about engines and i have read other peoples posts on what to do... but if someone could help me out on what i should buy and do next i would appreciate it greatly!

thanx

If you don't get a lid and all the supporting mods (headers, pulley, throttle body, gears) you'll choke the cam and/or heads. Cart before the horse.

If you have money, I'd spend $5k on a Procharger supercharger kit. On a stock engine they will make 530 crank hp... plus it'll drive better than an all motor (radical cam, so on) type of set-up.

Well it seems you already have a lid (of a sort, the "blackwing" is a type of lid), and exhaust (I'm assuming headers and Y with some type of catback)
Seems you have the basics covered, (anything else should be in the guide) so I'd say the next step would indeed be heads/cam, maybe a super/turbocharger, or even n2o, the options are limited only by the depth of your wallet

yes but i wouldn't put a high psi S/C on an engine that isn't forged "made stronger" i would go with the 5-7 psi setup myself for street use. or another possible option for you is an STS turbo, they are fairly cheap ( $3500 ) and add good power.

1. do you have long tube headers? if not get them.
2. a heads/cam setup will be a great power adder but is not cheap, and if it IS cheap to you see #3
3. slap a supercharger on that bia and be done !

edit: there is quite a few ways to make a car fast, so we need to know what you want out of it? a strip car, a street / strip car, or a pure street machine just for a fun weekend driver. and also how much your willing to spend on it, b/c after the first few basic mods there is a few different routes to go. also is the car an automatic or a manual transmission? if it's an automatic you'll probably want to buy a stall converter before you do some things to the engine. if it's a manual you're set unless you want to put new gears in the rear end or a stronger clutch. hope that helps you some?

what part of indiana are you from? yes do long tube headers and the s/c if you can afford it the headers will let the car breath SO much better. and definately go long tube not short or mid. pacesetters are really good and cheaper than other LT headers so i'd suggest buying a pair of them. and no a S/C shouldn't do any damage as long as you don't boost the PSI way up on it. ( psi = amount of air being forced into the engine = damage over time. ) you'd be fine with that 5-7 though.

edit: and definately get a stall converter, i don't know much about them but it appears to me it should be the first mod with an automatic trans. head on over to the transmission section and ask those guys for some help on what you are wanting to accomplish, and if you decide on that supercharger and headers let them know that. after you get your supercharger and headers and things on the car, i know a guy that does a great job of tuning for cheap and he's really good ( check my signature ) he's in the indy area also.
